Teeth cleaning is part of oral hygiene that involves the removal of dental plaque and tartar (mineralised deposits called calculus ) from teeth with the intention of preventing gum disease (gingivitis, and periodontal disease). People routinely clean their own teeth by brushing and interdental cleaning, which is still not sufficient to clean areas that cannot be accessed by tooth brush. Hence it is recommended and essential to do an oral prophylaxis once in 6 months.
Teeth cleaning, also known as oral prophylaxis is literally a preventive treatment of a disease. It is a procedure for the removal of tartar that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas that are difficult to reach in routine tooth brushing. This involves the use of various instruments to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth.
