Lasers work by delivering energy in the form of light. When used for oral surgical procedures, the laser acts as a cutting instrument or a vaporizer of tissue that it comes in contact with. A soft tissue laser has plethora of use in oral surgical procedures like frenectomy, gum contouring, crown lengthening, lesion removal, removal of tissue for biopsy etc. In periodontal therapy for gum disease, the dental laser is used to access and remove the inflamed gum tissue from around the root of the tooth.
LASER provides the benefit of less pain during and after treatment to the patients. Hence, it requires less or no shots for pain relief prior to treatment unlike traditional surgical methods that use scalpel. Soft tissue lasers also allow greater precision. Soft tissue lasers cauterize the tissues as they cut, instantly closing the tissues. This reduces bleeding and helps prevent bacteria from entering treated areas, greatly lowering the risk of infection. A faster, less painful recovery can be expected when LASER is used.
